Why CBD Doesn’t Get You “High”

CBD and THC come from the same plant but act differently. Here is the short, honest version of why CBD is not intoxicating.

One of the most common questions we hear: if CBD can feel calming to some people, why does it not feel like being high?

Different molecule, different behavior

THC is the cannabinoid that produces the intoxicating “high.” It does this by binding strongly to CB1 receptors in the brain. CBD does not bind to those receptors in the same way, which is why it is not considered intoxicating. Researchers are still working out exactly how CBD acts in the body, and it appears to interact with several different systems.

“Calming” is not the same as “no effects”

Some people say CBD helps them feel relaxed, but research is still developing and experiences vary. CBD can also cause side effects in some people, such as drowsiness, digestive upset or changes in appetite. It can interact with certain medications, so talk with your doctor if you take any.

A note on THC

Some hemp products, including full spectrum ones, contain small amounts of THC. Check the certificate of analysis for the exact amount, and note that it can appear on a drug test.
